The Community Garden at St Botolph’s recently welcomed members of 5th Boston (St Botolph’s) Cubs for an engaging and educational evening of wildlife discovery, delivered by Froglife as part of their National Lottery-funded community project.

The session began with an introduction to staying safe around water before the Cubs learnt the correct techniques for pond dipping. Equipped with nets, trays and identification sheets, they explored the pond in search of the fascinating creatures living beneath the surface.

After carefully collecting their finds, the Cubs used identification sheets to identify the different species they had discovered, learning more about the important role these creatures play in healthy freshwater habitats. The young people then had the opportunity to examine their discoveries under microscopes, revealing incredible details that cannot be seen with the naked eye and bringing the hidden world of pond life to life.

The session, led by the expert team from Froglife, encouraged curiosity, teamwork and a deeper appreciation of local wildlife while promoting responsible exploration and conservation.

We are grateful to Froglife for delivering this fantastic educational experience as part of their National Lottery-funded project, helping young people connect with nature and discover the rich biodiversity found within our Community Garden.
